Crossroads
Julián Galay
Cities are born from crossroads and organisms from symbiosis. This is a film about the meeting between cities and animals, which inhabit what has been built by man as a new geography. How do institutions that work with organisms see and listen? How is human knowledge about nature constructed and represented? The correspondence between two naturalist brothers of the 19th century and the diaries of the explorers of the 18th century introduces us to a tour of natural science museums, zoos and laboratory experiments. Freehand drawings are transformed into data; notebooks on computer screens and research papers. In the end, the film loses control of itself. A monkey rebels, takes the means of production and makes a recording of the ruins that surround it. Can a film become an animal?
