Joaquín Maito

Buenos Aires, 1987. Since he was little he was interested in creating images. His practice began drawing characters and fictional worlds on any free paper.. His work is an anarchic cross between photographic experimentation, art direction, graphic design, and non-fiction filmmaking.

He has a degree in Audiovisual Arts from UNA (National Art University).

Together with Tatiana Mazú, he co-directed The State of Things (2012). His film Owner’s Portrait (2018) was premiered at Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Fest and awarded as Best First Feature Film. In 2019 he directed the short film (Emoji) (Emoji).

His films have also been selected at Mar del Plata International Film Fest, Ji.hlava, Festifreak, New Horizons, Márgenes Cine, Al Este, Cortópolis, Corriente nonfiction, Dafilms, among others.

He participated in 2018 in Berlinale Talents BA and in 2019 at the Buenos Aires Youth Art Biennial.

He has received support to make his films by INCAA – National Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts-, National Fund of Arts and Cultural Patronage of BsAs.

He’s cinematographer of Octopus Ball by Nacho Losada, Little Red Riding Hood by Tatiana Mazú, What do I do in this very visual world? by Manuel Embalse. He is the art director of Eldorado by Francisco Bouzas and producer of The New Ruins by Manuel Embalse.

He’s currently working on his next films: Nostalgia, the way and God the author of everything – directed together with Tatiana Mazú and Nacho Losada-.
