Nobody’s party

Manuel Embalse

“Everyone’s party” is a 1979 film directed by Sergio Renán, which combines fictional situations with matches from the 1978 World Cup held in Argentina, ocurred during the dictatorship in the country. Using two reels of the film found during a video store dismantling in 2017, I explore the listening and visual imagination of that era, reconstructed from testimonies from the director and actors. I revisit these materials during a far-right government where cinema is under daily attack: can a film deny its historical context?
