The state of things

An army of freights starts at dawn under a huge plot with Che’s face. In the supermarket, people walk using trolleys full of merchandise like canes or walkers. There is a house being emptied. There is an auction in the Flores neighborhood. Customers fill the place, eager to buy all kinds of objects, both useful and beautiful, broken or absurd. They chat, have dinner, celebrate their birthdays, dress their children. But there is almost no filter when it comes to fighting to get at the best price what belongs to the dead, the exiles, the fugitives, the soulless. A Mercado Libre reseller overly concerned with the staging, an Iggy Pop-like collector with a past as a fishing worker, and an antiquarian owner who admits to selling people’s affections hints at the state of affairs. But everything sacred is profitable. And Christmas is getting closer.
